How to Paint Shininess Texture Map in Photoshop CS4

Shininess is the size of the specular highlight and when you’re painting the Shininess texture map you are actually painting the area of the 3D object that are shiny.

This is how you paint shininess texture map in Photoshop CS4:

1. Import a 3D object or create a 3D object inside Photoshop. Select the 3D layer and in the Paint On drop down select Shininess (see image below).

Paint On drop down select Shininess

2. Select a brush and start painting on the 3D object and Photoshop will ask you to create the Shininess texture map, just click ok to have Photoshop create the Shininess texture map. Black will display the shininess, white will have it go away, and grays are in between.

3. When you first create the shininess texture map the default color is white but you can change that to any color by going into the “Filter by: Materials” and select the material you want to change.

4. Keep in mind, this is changing the specular highlight color on the materials and it has nothing to do with your lighting.
