Wordpress 2.9 New Themes Upload and Search Functionality

As you know WordPress is an open source program, it is known widely as a blog platform. WordPress has been around for about 4 to 5 years or maybe longer.

The first question is how do you install WordPress. I have already covered that, check out my Free WordPress Installation Service.

Once you have your WordPress install, go to your WordPress login screen. Usually the URL will be something like this http://www.your-domain.com/wp-login.php which will bring you to the login screen.

Login to your WordPress by entering your username and password.

WordPress Login Screen

Once you login, you will see your Dashboard, you will see some statistics like how many posts, pages, category, comments and other statistics.

Currently I am using WordPress version 2.9.2, you can see it right here on the Dashboard.

The first thing I’m going to talk about is uploading your WordPress themes. Before you will need a FTP software to upload your theme files to your web host to add new themes. Now with WordPress 2.8 and higher you can upload and even search for themes right inside your WordPress admin area. To do that look to the left column and click on Appearance, once you click on appearance you will see a drop-down menu.

WordPress Add New Theme

Click on Add New Themes, this will bring you to the Install Themes page where you can search for your themes.

Now let’s click on Upload at the top of the page, this will bring you to the Install a theme in zip format. Click Browse… to look through your hard drive for your themes in zip format. Find the theme you want to upload, hit okay and then click install now.

WordPress Upload Theme in .zip format

WordPress will run the upload of your theme, it will extract it and add it to your new themes section.

Once your theme has been uploaded, click on the Themes button under Appearance. This is where you will find all of your themes you current have saved. Be careful not to click on the delete button unless you really want to delete that theme.

WordPress now allow you to search for free themes online or you can upload your themes within your WordPress admin area without using any FTP software.

So that’s how you upload and activate new themes.
